Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy in Las Palmas

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the approach with the strongest scientific evidence for treating anxiety, depression, stress and other psychological difficulties. At Mente y Salud, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, we use CBT both in the practice and in online therapy, with clear goals, between-session tasks and regular progress reviews.

CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are connected: what we think influences how we feel and what we do, and in turn behaviours and emotions reinforce certain thoughts. When rigid, catastrophic or self-critical thoughts appear (e.g. "I'll never manage", "everything goes wrong for me"), mood and behaviour suffer. Therapy involves identifying those thoughts and beliefs, questioning them with evidence and replacing them with more realistic and helpful interpretations, while changing behaviours that maintain the problem (avoidance, rumination, inaction).

In our practice we use CBT to treat anxiety (including chronic anxiety and phobias), depression, stress, low self-esteem, grief, social skills and relationship difficulties (couple, family). We work with adults, adolescents and couples. Each plan is tailored to the person: number of sessions, frequency and complementary techniques (e.g. mindfulness, gradual exposure, EMDR when indicated) are chosen according to your situation and goals.

If you are looking for cognitive-behavioural therapy in Las Palmas or Gran Canaria, whether in person at C. Tomás Miller 18 or online from anywhere, you can contact us by WhatsApp or via the contact form. We explain the process in the first session and define the next steps together.

What to expect in therapy

1

Assessment and goals

In the first sessions we learn about your situation, your history and what you would like to change. We set concrete, measurable goals and explain how CBT works and what you can expect. The therapeutic alliance (trust and collaboration) is the foundation of the work.

2

Active work in session and between sessions

Weekly (or fortnightly as appropriate) sessions in which we work on thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Homework (records, experiments, practising techniques) is part of the treatment and speeds up change. We review progress regularly.

3

Consolidation and discharge

When goals are met, we space out sessions and prepare for discharge with a maintenance and relapse-prevention plan. If you need to return in the future, the door remains open.
